MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To ensure the supply chain is proficient in providing continuity of supply on all materials required to support manufacturing, whilst consistently achieving both department and company objectives. The right product at the right time in the right quantity and quality delivered to the right place.

To ensure that the stock levels are kept at an optimum level.

To permanently solve supplier caused quality and delivery issues.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • The procurement of materials as suggested by MRP for suppliers (including some critical suppliers), ensuring that all purchases are made to the specified delivery, and within set purchase prices.
  • To ensure that components are expedited to fulfil production/customer requirements as required by the MPS plan.
  • Rescheduling of current purchase orders, as required by MRP, to meet changing customer requirements.
  • Ensure that stock levels are kept at optimum levels by applying existing delivery strategies, working closely with the suppliers and provide visibility on future inventory movements through inventory forecasts.
  • Identify and manage critical components (i.e. long lead time, single sourced, etc)
  • Provide critical suppliers with regular forecasts, to ensure full visibility of our requirements
  • Report any significant supply/logistical problem to Direct manager; ensure supply issues are communicated timely to the relevant departments.
  • Ensure that purchasing data is kept up to date at all times on the MRP system.
  • Perform supplier visits, as necessary, to verify that capabilities and competencies align with company’s requirements.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with supply base, to ensure future contracts are beneficial to company’s strategic goals.
  • Ensure that reject issues are dealt with in a timely manner and that quality issues with suppliers are addressed using the correct methods ensuring corrective action reports are obtained and stored in the correct place.
  • Ensure individual/department targets in respect of inventory levels, supplier performance are met.
  • Working closely with shipping companies and ensure that most cost effective shipping methods from Far East are used ( sea or air).

Statistics

  • No of Suppliers – between 20 to 40
  • Annual spend – approx £20M
  • Supplier Management – Monthly/quarterly review meetings to be held with all key/preferred suppliers.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS NEEDED

Essential

  • Minimum 5 years purchasing experience within a Manufacturing environment.
  • Commercially aware.
  • Computer literate with ERP systems (SAP would be preferred) and Microsoft packages, in particular Excel.
  • Flexible/adaptable – able to cope with change.
  • Capable of working under pressure.
  • Team Player.

KEY FEATURES

  • Manage supplier relationships including supplier reviews, monitoring, reporting and ensuring compliance with all contractual commitments contained within the agreed supply contracts.
  • Review / approve supplier invoice queries for rejection / acceptability of costs in a timely manner.
  • To make suggestions to improve the paperwork, requisitions systems and processes, particularly as affects the buying function.
  • Persuading and routinely influencing external supplier is a basic responsibility of this position.
  • Maintain and active involvement in developing purchasing initiatives and contribute towards setting and meeting own and purchasing objectives.
