Main purpose of the job

To ensure that production processes are appropriate for the range and quantity of products manufactured. Ensuring that processes are suitably documented and business systems are aligned at all times. Provide engineering direction to production, senior management and R&D on safe efficient product manufacturing methods. To review existing manufacturing process and propose continuous improvement plans.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • To proactively review production processes and implement changes to improve efficiency and reduce waste using Lean Six Sigma techniques.
  • To drive processes with R&D to ensure that new products and changes to existing products are introduced into manufacturing in a timely and controlled manner.
  • Provide recommendations and strong direction to the business in respect of the type and time frame of new process implementation ensuring its relevance in terms of current manufacturing strategy and capability, whilst keeping cost and speed of implementation at the forefront of decision making.
  • To support management and peers with engineering expertise with regard to business improvements.
  • To ensure that process documentation where necessary is provided and accurate (e.g. MI’s, WI’s, SOP’s etc)
  • To ensure that process routings are routinely checked and updated to reflect new and revised processes.
  • To proactively develop the use of continuous improvement boards and KPI’s to expedite improvement opportunities.
  • To maintain equipment and tooling inventories and drawings.
  • To help develop the understanding and implementation of 5’s to a world class standard.
  • To support the introduction of new processes, factory layouts and the upkeep of site plans.
  • To promote safe working and support company safety initiatives.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS NEEDED

Essential

  • HNC/D in Production/Manufacturing Engineering or above.
  • 5 years’ experience in a senior production engineering role.
  • Experience of lean manufacturing techniques.
  • Experience of risk assessing
  • Experience of electronics manufacturing/assembly.
  • Have an excellent work ethic and be self-motivated.
  • Ability to motivate others to achieve high performance team outputs.
  • Work accurately with attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills, ability to get on with all levels, ability to work as part of a team.
  • Experience of specifying, acquiring and implementing new equipment.

Desirable

  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt
  • SAP
